eve: 2 months

Her little legs were red from the band-aids she got after her shots… but this little angel still gave me some of the best smiles!

Height: 22.75 inches (56%)
Weight: 10 pounds 6 ounces (21%)
Head Circumference: 14.75 inches (21%)

Clothing size: All the newborn things are packed away, and she’s in 0-3 month things now. We also started using her newborn cloth diapers, and they’ve fit surprisingly well, with very minimal leaks. I’m happy to not have to buy any more disposables! Cloth diapers make her look twice as big as she is, though, and her clothes fit a little more snugly.  We also started using cloth wipes this month, which I wish I would have done a long time ago!

Eye color: Blue so far! They look super light, especially outdoors. I’ll be really surprised if they darken up, but I guess it’s always possible.

Hair: She’s balding on top. The very back of her hair is very very dark, and the sides are a little lighter. She still gets these fuzzy little cowlicks that I love so much.

Eating: She nurses in 2-hour intervals (sometimes it can be up to about 2 hours and 20 minutes). She’s still super-efficient and usually finishes a feeding in about 10 minutes.

Sleep: I’m overjoyed to report that sleep has improved SO much this month. She just hangs out with us in the evenings until we’re ready to go to bed (which is usually between 11 pm and 12 am), and then I nurse her and put her down at the same time as us. She’ll typically sleep about 4 to 5 hours straight which is amazing. If she doesn’t wake up, then I wake her up to feed her. She doesn’t take any official naps; she just sleeps throughout the day as she needs it (which is still very often).

Favorite things: Snuggling! She would sleep on me all day long if she had the chance. I spend most afternoons and evenings cuddling her, listening to her breathe and watching her smile in her sleep. Lately, I’ve been watching Call the Midwife, and every time there’s a baby on screen, I kiss the top of her head. What’s better than watching a show about babies while snuggling your own little baby?

She’s also very dependent on her pacifier, so if I forget to bring it somewhere, it’s actually a big problem. None of our other girls wanted it as much as she does. Sometimes, she’ll even finish nursing and want her pacifier immediately afterward.

Dislikes: She had her first set of shots, and it was her least favorite thing ever! She screamed for the whole afternoon after getting them and was just inconsolable until I gave her some Tylenol. Poor baby. She’s not a huge fan of baths, although we did have one bath that she actually didn’t cry for! I always worry about making the water too hot, so I think it tends to be more on the lukewarm side, and that could be why she doesn’t enjoy it so much.Nicknames: Evie, “Wittle” (Little) Eve.

Milestones, etc.: -She started giggling!!! It’s just the sweetest sound in the world. All three of her older sisters have gotten her to laugh and I just love it. Her very first laugh was actually in her sleep on the night before she turned 2 months old, and then the next day, I got her to laugh when she was awake.

-She coos and talks to us all day long. She’s such a chatty baby! I don’t remember the other girls being quite so loquacious so early on. She’s so little that it almost seems strange that she can be so animated.

-If she isn’t giggling or talking, she’s smiling! I’m obsessed with that gummy grin.-She does these little sit-ups (the best she can, anyway)! She lifts her head off her chest and sometimes starts to tip forward because she just doesn’t have the muscle control she needs yet. I am still very impressed by her strength, though.

-She’s randomly found her fingers a few times, and uses them like a pacifier (very loudly)!

-She loves when we make baby noises back at her. We’ll say “uh-guh” after she does, and it always makes her smile! She makes happy gurgling sounds all the time, too.

-She sometimes spits up a lot… Sometimes, it’s so much milk that I wonder if it was her entire feeding, but it doesn’t happen all the time, and she’s gaining weight, so I think it’s just typical baby behavior. (Thankfully, her sisters are good sports and don’t mind changing their shirts!)

Dear Eve,

After you were born, I remained amazed by your very existence, and that my body grew you, for quite awhile. Now, though, it feels like we’ve had you here for a very long time, and it almost feels strange to remember the days that you weren’t part of our family yet.You are growing and changing every single day, and although part of me wishes that I could keep you little for always, I love smiling at each other, watching your thighs plump up, and seeing you enjoy life with your sisters.I love your chubby cheeks and your tiny toes. You are a little angel here on earth.Love, Mommy

I just love seeing how much they change each week this early on. She couldn’t stay awake for that 6-week picture!
