five on friday: headbands and #babyselfies

Friday, Friday… Here we go!

ONE. Kaya won’t let me put headbands on her for real, but wearing six headbands as a joke is perfectly acceptable according to her standard. Obviously. I love my silly girl.Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetTWO. Is there anything cuter than a clean baby in a bath towel? I’ll answer that for you: no, no there is not._MG_3868THREE. Kaya still prefers to sleep on her bedroom floor instead of in her own bed (this could be a whole other post itself), but she LOVES climbing up into ours and asking us to tuck her in at random times of the day. Usually, she’ll pat the pillow next to her to indicate that she wants you to cuddle with her. The baby was asleep yesterday morning, so when my big girl asked me to lay down and snuggle, I jumped at the chance to relax._MG_3849FOUR. This little Peanut had her two-month checkup this morning (which also means she got four shots… ouch)! Right now, she’s sleeping it off, and I just keep thinking about how happy I am that she gained another two pounds this month. That puts her 4 pounds and 1 ounce above her birth weight already!

I thought I was being pretty funny by making these (and secretly hoped he’d show one in class… he did, even if he was just humoring me)!08292014collage1Happy Friday!!!

lately (aka a big giant post with lots of pictures)

This post is really just a big, quick conglomeration of everything that’s gone on in the past two weeks, since I haven’t had a whole lot of time to get on the computer and blog (I’m actually amazed that I’m not even further behind than I am)!

Both of our moms came to stay with us and help out after we brought Kaelyn home. My mom took the first shift. She enjoyed grand-baby cuddles, and we enjoyed a lot of her awesome home-cooked meals._MG_3061

She went home on Wednesday, leaving just the four of us for a few days. Michael took some time off of work to help out and spend quality time with us… which included “watching” the baby while playing Xbox! Haha. She was more than happy to sleep on her daddy, and this allowed me to take a nap, so I’m not complaining._MG_3141

Kaya’s been up to her usual antics and making us laugh! She won’t wear a bow in her hair… but she’ll wear six headbands. Crazy girl!

We joined our friends for a cookout on the Fourth of July. It was our first real outing as a family of four (besides going to doctor appointments), and I have to admit, it was strange having to keep track of two kids._MG_3160

Kaya is a pretty good helper. She’s always looking out for her sister (and I’m not sure why they both have disgusted expressions in this picture…)_MG_3145

When she wasn’t putting Kaelyn’s pacifier back in her mouth, Kaya was monkeying around with her BFF Mia!_MG_3150-2

We didn’t go to the fireworks display this year, since it didn’t seem like a great idea to bring a newborn, and it was past Kaya’s bedtime, anyway. We did get to have yet another cookout, though, when Michael’s cousin, Nicole, came into town on Saturday!

Oh, cousins.07052014collage1

Grandma Gina came back on Sunday night to help us out for a few days. Kaya definitely enjoyed her visit (and I enjoyed when she’d take the baby and tell me to go back to bed)!_MG_3177

Grandma, Jeff, Brittany and I all went blueberry picking on Tuesday morning. I had so much fun just watching Kaya enjoy it! She was super gentle and didn’t even get any blueberry juice on her hands, which is more than I can say for myself.Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Apparently, a blueberry patch is a fine place for a nap.

Grandma left on Thursday, so I’ve been successfully taking care of two kids all on my own for a few days now (although I do have an amazing little helper who loves to rock the baby when she’s crying and help with diaper changes)!_MG_3199

Michael showed Kaya how to hide herself in the kitchen cabinets (and even close the door), so if it gets quiet and my helper is nowhere to be seen, I have to remember to look here now!_MG_3174

We’ve also been reading a lot of books. Kaya will sit with me and look at some while I nurse the baby, and then we also try to carve out some one-on-one time to read with her before bed. She definitely looks forward to those snuggles. Michael is so good at making all the sound effects from “Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?” that Kaya was cracking up a TON a few nights ago. I loved seeing them all sitting together._MG_3210

The rest of our time has been filled with nursing… nursing… and more nursing. I love these little baby cuddles. The nights are long right now, but I’m soaking it up because I already know the years are short.Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

five on friday: yogurt, prayer face and duck hunting

ONE. Someone loves her yogurt again! She lost interest in it for a while, but now she shovels it down like it’s going out of style. I’m pretty happy, especially since she still isn’t drinking whole milk.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset TWO. For Brittany’s baby shower this week, I was in charge of the punch. I was probably a little too excited to have these rubber ducks swimming in it (but it is adorable, no?)! The original recipe called for blue berry Koolaid, so I bought the blue-colored packet. The powder color should match the package, right? Wrong. It was RED fruit punch, which would have made this scene look a little more like duck hunting than ducks peacefully swimming in the bath.Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

THREE. Every time we ask Kaya to fold her arms to pray, she makes this face. It is so hard not to burst out laughing while we’re praying!_MG_2187FOUR. All these months that I’ve wanted to organize Kaya’s closet, I thought I’d have to order some space-saver bags online. I was super excited to see them at the Dollar Tree this week! We tried one out, and it’s actually pretty decent quality. Definitely worth a dollar!IMG_20140430_100759FIVE. I would cuddle with her all day, every day, if that’s what she wanted. The baby belly is making it a little bit harder these days… but I know that it’ll be even more difficult when I have to juggle two kids. I hope Kaya never gives up snuggling with her mama.Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

Happy weekend!

five on friday: poptarts, snail mail and ice cream

Five great moments:

ONE. Because I can’t text without making a million typos… and we think poo jokes are hilarious (#yeswearefiveyearsold). I’m glad Michael has the same weird sense of humor I do.

IMG_20140407_140718TWO. Speaking of pootarts poptarts, someone had her first taste of them while we were all sick. If it comes down to eating poptarts or not eating anything… well… at least she (happily) got some calories._MG_1926 _MG_1928

THREE. Suddenly, the grass is green and spring is HERE! We’ve been playing outside every day and I don’t know what we ever did being cooped up inside for all six months of winter.

_MG_1974FOUR. Does anyone still get excited for snail mail these days? I’m super pumped because I used to get Better Homes and Gardens magazine, but never renewed… so they sent me a deal to renew for three years for under $10 total. If it gets cheaper than that, I haven’t seen it!

FIVE. Michael took us on a date to Coldstone, and our little sweets-monster just couldn’t wait to dig in!Processed with VSCOcam with m5 presetHave a sweet weekend!
