goofy ganders

Part of *spring* break should definitely include some outdoor activities, don’t you think? Well, we included a trip to the park in our weekly agenda. Too bad it really didn’t feel all that warm and “springy!”

So what do you do at the park on a dreary winter day during spring break? Spy on the waterfowl, of course!

Who, by the way, you are no longer allowed to feed. Environmentally, it makes sense. FUNmentally, it’s just boring. By the way, I have absolutely no idea what kind of bird this guy below is, so if you do, you should educate me!

Since I was taking pictures anyway, I figured I would try to get some good ones of Michael and I together, seeing as we really don’t have very many. My mom did great with the camera, but well… Michael didn’t do so well with the posing! Just look at these goofy faces! I guess that’s one reason I love him, though.

Here is the only serious shot we took…

Honestly, I hope we’re still this goofy in 60 years.

vacation, shopping, and pigs

This weekend has been so good! But it's the first weekend of Spring Break, so how could it not be? haha.

On Friday night we went to a really awesome Greek restaurant (I've looooved Greek food ever since I went to Greece last year). The food was pretty authentic, and reasonably priced, so it was a big hit. I'd definitely go back. It was also a great relief to do something fun and relaxing after one of the most stressful weeks I've had in awhile. I love date nights, and my hubby!

Saturday came and we slept in until about 10am! Ah, vacation. We started some spring cleaning. It feels pretty good to get rid of some stuff. Afterward, we went out to get a few things we needed (aka a hole puncher for my 1,000,000 pages of nutrition notes!), but we also went to the dollar store and I got some new placemats… spring colors, as opposed to the snowmen I had. blah). And I even got some pink fleece for half price at the fabric store to make some new beds for my piggies. You might be really bored reading this, but well, I find placemats and fabric oh so exciting!

(my new mats)

As for a "Maggie" update… she is doing fabulous. Today is the first day since her surgery that she has truly been her crazy self, and I'm glad. She's now somewhat tolerant of me syringing food and medication into her mouth, and she even rests her little head on her warm compress. On Friday night we temporarily divided the big cage in half so that Maggie and Juni could be "together" without Juni ripping out Maggie's staples or anything. Maggie immediately seemed more active and they have been giving little kisses through their divider. It's amazing what a friend can do for your attitude!

one week to go

Just one week until spring break!! I am SO ready for it. This week, I wrote a small research paper (but research takes me FOREVER). Next week, I have two big homework assignments due as well as a somewhat larger paper. Wow.

So yesterday was the Bone Marrow Drive for our friend Paul… 891 people came!! How wonderful is that? =) I really hope someone finds a match now.

An interesting (and freeeeaky) thing happened when I was feeding my pigs a couple days ago! I have a box of hay (originally it was 50 pounds, we're probably about halfway through it now)… I reached my hand in, grabbed a bunch and put it in their cage. There was dark spot, I thought somehow it was a piece of wood, so I reached in, grabbed it, and just held it in my hand a moment. When I looked down, I realized it was a HUMONGOUS grasshopper! About 2 inches long, and pretty flat (I guess he got crushed when the hay was baled. oops.) Anyway, it caught me off guard, standing there, holding a dead monster grasshopper. I started yelling and Michael thought I was crazy (it was about 7:30 am!). I do find it pretty strange that I can dissect sheep, chickens, etc. without a problem, but if I get caught holding a bug, it's like the world is coming to an end! In my defense, it WAS a gigantic one!

Last night my awesome cousin and some of our friends came over =) We had a fun time telling stories, and they all got to meet Maggie and Juni, finally! And I gave them brownies, which they loved. I feel so good when people like my baking =)

Today I took a 3 hour nap, and I think I could still sleep for another 12. haha! But when I woke up, I had a box to open from my mom-in-law!! She sent me some really really cool jewelry for my birthday.
