eve faith: 3 weeks

Dear Eve,I say it all the time, but I can’t believe you’re three weeks old already! I still feel completely in awe of your very existence, and I often sit, stare, and soak in your sweetness and beauty. I feel so blessed to know you are ours.

These past few days, you’ve been so much more awake and alert, and I love seeing those big, bright, deep blue eyes peering about and taking in the world around you. Your most awake time seems to be right around our dinner hour, and sometimes, that’s when you’ve been a bit cranky. I’ve taken you out for a short walk just to calm you down, which worked wonders.

You also seem to be hitting a growth spurt this week. You’ve frequently been wanting to nurse even more often than every two hours, including throughout the night. I love our snuggles, but it is getting challenging to get by on so little sleep. To be fair, you have given us a couple of random nights with a long stretch of sleep (averaging 4 or 5 hours), but for the most part, that’s rare.

You’ve been absolutely full of smiles this week. I know that they’re most likely just “reflexes”, but I love seeing them nonetheless. We did have a moment one afternoon when you finished nursing, we locked eyes, and you grinned… twice! It seemed like the real thing, but I keep telling myself you’re still too little to truly smile.

You’re really good at doing all the things babies should do- eating, burping, and pooping. I’m always racing to get your old diaper off and new one on, because you sometimes like to pee everywhere as soon as we start changing you. We’ve already done a lot more laundry just because of that!

You get hiccups all the time… and it makes you grumpy. You had hiccups when I took this picture, and you certainly weren’t happy about it.

You don’t generally spit up much. I feel like you’re the best at keeping your milk in your belly compared to your sisters at this age.

You had your first walk in the stroller (instead of the wrap), and you stayed asleep for most of it. The wrap is nice in some instances, but I personally prefer the stroller. Neither of us end up quite as hot that way, and I’m able to walk a lot faster.

You met your Grandpa Skip for the first time this week! He really loved you. Of course, you had plenty of snuggles with Grandma Gina, too.

We took a few newborn photos this past week, as well as a few of you with all your sisters. You woke up for the last half of our photo shoot, and I was so excited to get some pictures of you with your eyes open. I look at this one and all I can see is how beautiful your little spirit is.Your sisters love you “more than all the stars and all the planets” (according to Kaya). They are the best helpers, and I really don’t know where I’d be without them. They love to bring me diapers, hold you when you’re sad, give you your pacifier, and kiss you all day long.Kaya takes photos of you on her camera all the time, and Kaelyn talks about you as if you were a gift to her for her birthday (just a little late)!Nella has finally started to bond with you this week. She loves to cover you in kisses and hugs, and has even asked to hold you once. I love seeing my two littlest babies together. We all love you so much, Little Eve!
