the guy behind the blog (july 2015 edition)

I love including Michael on the blog whenever I can, so when I saw this fun little survey here, I just had to ask him to participate! I want our girls to be able to look back one day and read something that their dad wrote, instead of just hearing from their mom all the time!

Before I turn this post over to him, I can’t go without mentioning how seriously adorable this photo is…  I’m convinced that there’s no faster way to melt a mama’s heart than a daddy dancing with his littlest girl. Anyway…_MG_8878

1. What is your all time favorite food?

Hmm… this is a tough one. I’ll basically eat anything that’s put in front of me (except for items in Question #4 below). I’m not very picky. So, not sure if I have a favorite right now. But, my favorite growing up was either mom’s homemade bread or Chicken Florentine. I think I was lucky enough once to have both in the same meal and I’m sure I probably exploded. Talk about some good food!

2. Who is the cook between you and your significant other?

Um… definitely not me. I can do cookies. And breakfast. I make some mean waffles. Beyond that, I haven’t had to make much. Tara does a fantastic job!

3. What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

On my mission, we had some Filipino Elders that occasionally dared us to try some of their food. So, I went with the balut challenge. Definitely the weirdest thing I’ve ever had and totally backs up my thought that a cultural delicacy is something only that culture would eat. (Be warned if you Google it)

4. Are there any foods that you absolutely detest?

Mushrooms and olives. Probably the only two things I can’t do. Mushrooms is just a texture thing. Olives has a story to it…

On my mission, we visited a lady’s home where she invited us in and offered to make us a salad (it was lunch time). She came back with a Greek salad, complete with green olives, olive dressing, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the lettuce was some distant olive cousin. Basically, too. much. olive. Ever since then, I haven’t been able to stomach olives.

5. What is your favorite local, little-known, or hole in the wall place to eat?

We frequent a small Greek restaurant here in town. It’s a small family-run restaurant, but they have the BEST gyros!

sand or snow? the boys behind the blog #9

Welp!  It’s another post from me (Michael) in the glorious “Boys Behind the Blog” series!  I know, I know… you’ve missed the posts, as I haven’t done it every month.  But, there’s a gift card on the line, so you know I’m in!  So… here we go!

1. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?

If I could live ANYwhere, I’d say it’d be a house in the mountains, with a nice view, and a small little pond/lake.  I love hearing the sound of running water, as well as the views of mountains.  Maybe something like this?  (assuming it has a decent internet connection)

2. Sand or snow?

I’d probably go with sand.  I enjoy the relaxation that comes with the beach and the sound of the crashing waves.  When’s the last time anyone just sat and relaxed in snow?  I’ve certainly had enough of it this year!

3. What Winter Olympic sport would you rock at?

I honestly have no idea.  But, maybe speed skating?  I’ve always been pretty fascinated watching the athletes fly around corners and I may or may not be guilty of trying to mimic them when I roller blade.  And as a biker, the aerodynamics of it all is pretty fascinating too!  I mean… look at this guy!

4. You’re cooking a romantic dinner- what is your go-to dish?

Spaghetti?  Haha…  I don’t know if I have a specific “go-to” dish.  It probably would be some sort of pasta with garlic bread.  Then brownie sundaes for dessert!  I know… not too creative.

5. Fill in the blank: This year, I gave Tara a __________ for Valentine’s Day?

Since Tara’s birthday is right with Valentine’s Day, it’s always a little tough to figure out what to do.  And to top it off this year, there was a TON of snow.  But, I was able to surprise her with a new Kindle Paperwhite.  I had actually been thinking about getting one for her for a while, but then she mentioned it a week or two ago.  I’ll take it as a sign!  So, that ended up being a combined birthday and Valentine’s Day present.  Love you buddy!  Glad you’ve already enjoyed it as much as you have!  🙂

pancakes or waffles? a post from michael

I’ve seen this link-up come and go for a few months, and I finally asked Michael to participate this time, so here are his answers! It’s so fun to see him write a little something about himself!

1. What is your favorite cereal?

My favorite cereals (because I can’t pick JUST one) would be Frosted Mini Wheats and probably Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

2. Pancakes or waffles?

_MG_0013

making waffles, of course!

Definitely. absolutely. without a doubt. Waffles! Especially if they are nice and hot and still gooey from chocolate chips! Makes me want to get up and make some now!

3. What is your favorite holiday tradition?

I would say that one of my favorite holiday traditions would be baking goodies and going around to deliver them. Why you ask? I love visiting people, maybe singing a quick carol, and making them smile with some yummy goodness. And no, it’s not my favorite because I “have to” taste test them. 😉

4. Finish the sentence: All I want for Christmas is…

my two front teeth! Sorry… just had to. Honestly, I would love to be able to go on a family trip somewhere where it’s just us and we can enjoy time outside and have fun. Too bad Christmas is super cold. So, maybe we’ll have to make it up later!

5. What was your best moment of 2013?

It’s hard to pick a single moment, as there have been lots of moments. I try to do my best to pick out little “tender mercies” as they appear. I’d say that most of them are circled around watching Kaya grow up, learn to walk, learn to express herself more, and just be so much fun! All of her smiles, running and wrapping her arms around my legs, and her little kisses are the best! Being a dad just rocks!
