five on friday (08/28)

Happy Friday! 🙂

ONE. Monday morning had a slow start! After all our traveling last week, we’ve been a little extra tired. Kaya likes to snuggle up to me while I’m nursing the baby, and lately, she’s made herself even more comfortable by putting her pillow over my legs. I know she might not always want to cuddle her mom, so I’m soaking this up while it lasts.TWO. Our friend Katie surprised us with this gorgeous orchid! It’s the most vivid blue flower I’ve ever seen, and I love how it brightens up the room! It’s supposed to be pretty foolproof as far as care goes, so here’s to a (hopefully) long-lasting relationship with this beauty._MG_9104 THREE. So this must be the reason I had two kids…_MG_9117 …even if the end result is a giant mess! 🙂_MG_9122FOUR. These little baby piggies are growing so fast already! They had their first baths this week and look better than brand new. 🙂

Claire is still a little shy… 🙂_MG_9133FIVE. We kicked off our Friday with sidewalk chalk! Kaya loves creating and even tried to make a rainbow. Kaelyn just loved tasting the chalk.. haha. Playing outside with my girls is definitely one of my favorite things.

Happy weekend! What are your plans?

Linking up here!

five on friday: feels like fall!

ONE. It’s finally feeling like fall around here and I couldn’t be more excited for all the upcoming seasonal festivities. We’ve been running around town nearly every day these past two weeks, so when we had a day off with nothing planned, we took full advantage of staying in our jammies and relaxing.

Kaya cozied up with a book, her baby doll, and a blanket and was happy as can be._MG_4287Kaelyn actually stays in her pajamas about fifty percent of the time, anyway…_MG_4274 … and obviously, she’s pretty happy about it. It’s just easier to take her outside that way when it’s chilly._MG_4263 TWO. Kaya got some playdough for her birthday, so we busted it open this week and had a blast with it! She loved using my fondant rolling pin and cookie cutters to make shapes._MG_4259 I made her a cupcake and a puppy. They were definitely not works of art, but she was obsessed and wanted to take the puppy everywhere with her for the rest of the day._MG_4267

THREE. I made my first pumpkin bread of the season for seminary last week. Mmmmm. The taste of pumpkin really makes Fall feel official.Processed with VSCOcam with a9 preset FOUR. Cooler temperatures = a happy baby in a hoodie!PhotoGrid_1411577333009FIVE. We had Kaya’s birthday party last weekend, and I still haven’t gone through all the pictures! She had such a wonderful day, and I’ll be posting all about it soon.Processed with VSCOcam with se1 presetHappy weekend!

five on friday: pepper in my water and riding a giant bumblebee

My top five moments this week are simple but oh-so-sweet:

ONE. My baby has the best smile…_MG_3953 … and some of the funniest silly faces!PhotoGrid_1409366558504 TWO. Kaya has been playing with her kitchen every single day. I ask her for a drink, and she’ll get “water” from the faucet and then usually add salt or pepper. Yum… not quite the chocolate milk I was hoping for._MG_3944

THREE. How awesome is it when you think of texting your friend that you’re going to be at the park, and then she texts you first? Kaya and Mia had an impromptu play date and had the best time. Riding a bumblebee is sure to make anyone happy!IMG_20140904_111412FOUR. Kaya said her first French word yesterday, and I couldn’t have been more proud! She’s obsessed with this song and after asking to watch it a million times, said “un croc[odile]” and went to bed singing “crocrocro”. It all but melted my heart when I heard it.

FIVE. I told you Kaelyn loves her mobile… well, I used Google’s Auto-Awesome feature to make a little GIF. This is pure happiness right here!kaelyn09042014Happy Friday!!!

weekend scenes

Our weekend started off with a dreary, rainy Friday. We didn’t even leave the house after Michael got home, but that didn’t mean that Kaya had to miss out on any fun…_MG_3464Kaya loves pretending that anything and everything is a slide, so Michael had the idea to take one of our folding tables out of the craft room and let her go down it. This might’ve been the best day of her life (minus any day she gets to share Daddy’s Reese’s)! I know we’re supposed to be responsible adults now that we’re parents… but hey, it’s so much more fun to stay a kid!_MG_3463We tried out these pepperoni rolls for dinner… Mmm!
Processed with VSCOcam with a4 presetSaturday afternoon, we went to visit Ben and Brittany and their sweet new baby, Caroline, at the hospital! I had the privilege of taking a few photos for them. Here’s one of my favorites:
_MG_3506 Sunday morning was church, of course, and then we came home with the hope that we’d all nap._MG_3541

I think Jax gets more sleep than anyone in the house right now. He’s also a nursing-pillow thief.Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset I skipped napping and instead made homemade French bread. It was my first time doing it, and I have to say, it was super easy and turned out great!Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetIt was a fast, fun weekend. Happy Monday everyone!

the 5 c’s

I  am the happiest girl on earth now that Lelia, Jeff, and Karl are in town and available for a little fun! Because the newlyweds have been busy cleaning and setting up their new apartment, I figured I’d have them over for dinner one night. I invited Karl too, since he can’t cook I love him so much.

I made my own version of vegetarian chili! (recipe to come soon)! It was a big hit with cheese, tortilla chips, and cornbread._MG_8107After dinner, Baby Bird got a whole lot of cuddles.
_MG_8095 Uncle Karl wanted to read Kaya a story (I think he just wanted an excuse to read the Pooh Bear book, because apparently you can’t open it if there’s not a baby on your lap)!_MG_8097 Jeff and Lelia made some delicious chocolate-chip cookies!
_MG_8098 We played cards (the name of the game is “BANG”! We’ve loved it for years and finally got our own cards for Christmas)._MG_8099 And well… there was a whole lot of CRAZY. I love my family so much!_MG_8103

snail fun

Last week I decided to take out this light up, musical snail toy that my mom had given Kaya when she was born. At the time, I remember thinking that it would be forever until she would be old enough to use it. Boy, was I wrong! I noticed how interactive she’s becoming with her surroundings, so I decided to give it a try.

It turns out that Kaya loves this thing. It even makes tummy time slightly more bearable.

So much fun! I love seeing her happy.

She already spends too much time in front of the mirror…

The best part is that she reaches out for it, all on her own! I’m so amazed at how  many skills she’s gaining so quickly.
