time and change

Working on getting all my photos backed up sure has a way of making me all sentimental. I was going through pictures of Kaya’s room from last year… back before Kaelyn was born and it became “the girls’ room”. Seeing that tiny space, the simple nursery that I spent so much time dreaming up and preparing for our sweet baby girl, gives me a pang of longing in my heart.

It’s not a longing for things to be as they once were, because we all know that I am so in love with my little family just as it is now.

It’s more of a yearning for all that time that’s gone by. All those special moments that have already passed, which we can only relive through our memories.

_MG_1381Six years ago, we were engaged and counting down the days until I’d come home from Europe! We were planning to go to the temple and make those sacred marriage covenants with each other. We were anxious and intimidated, but we knew we were meant to be together. We thought we loved each other then, but that was nothing compared to how we feel now.

We filled our tiny, one-bedroom apartment with old furniture, wedding photos, and our furry babies, Maggie and Juni.

Three years ago, we were getting ready to be first-time parents. We had no idea what a wild ride we were in for. We were excited and terrified and wondered every day if we’d be ready for this. Little did we know how much our hearts were about to explode with the greatest love we’ve ever felt.

We had moved to a bigger apartment, and there was room for a nursery. I planned and pinned ideas on Pinterest, shopped, sewed, and hot-glued. Michael put together a crib and a dresser and we hung things on the walls._MG_1389

One year ago, we knew our family was going to change forever, because we three were about to become four. We were counting down the days, making the most of our one-on-one time with Kaya, and daydreaming about meeting our second precious baby girl. Our hearts would grow yet again.

That same tiny room changed once more- we gave Kaya a “big-girl” bed, and the crib moved to the other wall. The rocking chair moved to our room, and it felt like we had more furniture than we had space at first.

But oh, that sweet, tiny, newborn baby._MG_3335

Watching that little room evolve over time is just a physical reminder of how much our family has grown over these past few years… and how much we’ve grown, too. It truly is something amazing.

I don’t know where we’ll be or what we’ll be doing one year from now. Or three years. Or six.

But I do know I’m going to hold on and cherish these moments, because soon they’ll just be a part of the time that’s already gone by, like all the memories we already have.

31 weeks

How big is baby? About 3.5 lbs and 18 inches long!
Maternity clothes? Pretty much every day now, yup.
Sleep: This week has been the worst so far… but I think I am also a little bit sick so that might have something to do with it. I also feel like I dream about holding her every time I do sleep!
Best moment this week: Getting her crib all made up with the mattress and sheet and her little lamb, making her name to put on the wall with Michael (and no, it’s not going to say “munchkin”, but we’re keeping it a surprise for now), hearing her heartbeat nice and strong at the doctor’s office yesterday… So many good moments! I was also super excited to hear that she is head down! I know that she can still change position but for some reason it just makes me so happy.
Movement: Lots as usual. She’s my little dancer, wiggler, and hiccuper. It still never gets old for me to touch her and feel her push back on me. I love her so much.
Food cravings: Chocolate chip cookies!
Miss Anything? Sleeping well, but I know that this is just preparation for the real thing!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really, but meat is still not on the menu often.
Gender: Girl.
Belly Button in or out? Little girl can push part of it out pretty far depending on how she’s sitting in there!
Exercising? 20.44 running miles, but I’ve had some rough days and I feel like people are always looking at me when I’m out there.
Mood: Soooo excited to meet this little princess!
Looking forward to: Picking out/making the rest of the things for her walls and finishing up in there!

And as a tiny nursery sneak-peek… Here’s “Lambie”, waiting for her little friend to arrive! My mom bought this little plush for the baby, along with a couple of Eric Carle books (it was a Kohl’s special)! Michael has started peeking in her room and saying “goodnight!” and “good morning!” to this little lamb… I guess he’s practicing!

creative productivity

I’ve been pretty excited about crafting lately. We reorganized the den (where my work space is), and I LOVE being in there now, so it makes it easier to just go make something! The only thing missing is a comfy desk chair (hopefully Michael is reading this…haha!)

Finding out that our munchkin is a baby girl has motivated me even more. There are so many fun things I want to make for her!

My two main focuses right now are sewing and wire jewelry. Here’s the first wire bracelet I made out of brass (for practice) and some glass beads my aunt gave me.

And of course I had to make something for munchkin. So I cut up Michael’s old jeans and made a little skirt and matching booties! (tutorials here and here)

The next creation took no skill at all, actually, but I wanted to share it anyway because I thought it was pretty cool! I found a word-cloud generator here and used it to make a little wall art for munchkin’s room. Of course, it’s in the shape of a horse… just wait until you see the rest of the room!

Apparently, baby girl has been getting creative too- she somehow went out, bought a card, and mailed it to me for Mother’s Day. It’s pretty interesting that her handwriting looks identical to my mom’s and that she already knows to shop at Hallmark!
