donuts and a daddy-daughter date

Yeah, it’s definitely Thursday, and I’m only just writing about our weekend now. But how can you let a great weekend go undocumented?

On Saturday morning, I went out for my run, and when I came home, I discovered that we had no muffins left… and there wasn’t enough milk to make any more. What’s a girl to do when you have a breakfast crisis like this? Make donuts, of course! I haven’t made any in quite a while, so I revisited this recipe, and I think these were the best cake donuts I’ve ever made. We obviously skipped the glaze, because we’re chocolate-on-chocolate-with-sprinkles kind of people.

Michael and Kaya had a daddy-daughter date that morning. First stop- Home Depot for one of their kids’ workshops. Kaya built a miniature toy wagon, and apparently drove all the nails herself. I’m so proud of my skilled little girl!

She was also thrilled because apparently they gave out juice boxes at the workshop… and Kaya has never had juice (of any kind) before, so this really was exciting for her! She had a few sips and didn’t really know what to think of it at first.

They ran some errands at Walmart, where the bank inside just happened to be giving out balloon animals and stickers. It was Kaya’s lucky day for sure!

Daddy took her to Wendy’s for a Frosty (her favorite treat). And yes, apparently you can get a Frosty in the morning!

During nap time, Michael worked on patching our tire. We’ve had a slow leak in it for months, but we couldn’t find the cause. Finally, Michael spotted a nail stuck in the tire. He pulled it out and patched it up.
_MG_1139 Saturday night always means bathtime! We like to have clean kids for church, at least. 😉 Someone loves her lion towel too much…_MG_1142 I taught the young women on Sunday, we had nice long afternoon naps, and then rounded out our weekend with some coloring. These small things might not seem important, but I always love looking back at these tiny details and little moments._MG_1151

And now I’m practically ready for the weekend (again)!

my dog is a photobomber

Happy Friday! This has been one of the most relaxed weeks we’ve had in a while, so here are five of my favorite “simple” moments:

ONE. Her eyes. Have you ever seen any more beautiful? It’s the number one compliment she receives. (and yep… she was coming after my camera here…)_MG_0159 TWO. She loves playing in the bath, until I start the actual washing part… good thing Daddy was there to save her (with the most adorable little lion towel)!_MG_0162

THREE. These awesome new $1 socks I found at Michael’s (the craft store) and FOUR. My photo-bombing dog. He’s clingy (just a little lot). Most of the time, I’d rather not be squashed by his over-affectionate tendencies, but I can’t help feeling flattered. IMG_20131016_101600FIVE. I made this mac ‘n cheese on Tuesday. It turned out decently good… except that I don’t know what on Earth I was thinking when I made an entire box of pasta for three people (Kaya refuses to eat it… which is odd. She eats any other kind of pasta with cheese…). We still have a TON of it left and it’s Friday. Lucky for me, Michael never complains about eating leftovers for days (although I could definitely go for something else… like pizza *cough Michael cough*…)

Linking up with Natasha, April, Christina, and Darci today!

I’m going to keep it simple today and just dump a bunch of phone photos on you from the last two weeks!

So here we are, crazy-haired and looking milk-drunk! We enjoyed some time outside; I got my new lens in the mail and have been loving it, and I made my mom-in-law’s famous rolls. I feel bold to say it, but… I think they tasted just like hers (which is a HUGE accomplishment. She’s known for these rolls)! Michael even agreed 🙂
08302013collage1 Kaya has been taking her orange kitty everywhere, and loving bananas, books, and her friends!08302013collage2 She also enjoyed her first-ever bath in the big tub (I know… she’s 11 months old, and seriously, this is the first time she wasn’t in the infant tub. Took us long enough!) She really loved it and splashed like crazy!_MG_9277Happy weekend!

insta-jam #11 (may 2013)

Now that we’re more than halfway through June… Yep. I’m a slowpoke, but that’s okay. Better late than never! I won’t write captions for all of them since they are pretty self-explanatory (aka my baby is CUTE and I take lots of pictures of her. Haha).

Baking too much; a bath in the sink at Grandma’s; playing with some plastic cups; and one of the last photos I have of my sweet Maggie just two days before we said goodbye.instajammay2013_1 Smiles; frozen keys for sore gums; waiting at the pond for a photoshoot; giggles.instajammay2013_2

She loves panda; I love these “Wendy’s fakeout” homemade chicken sandwiches; being cute; big beautiful eyes.

IMG_20130517_102337 One of the few “fun” baths we’ve ever had.IMG_20130516_214134 Rolling over on the changing table; grabbing toes; eating some yogurt for the first time; and cuddles.instajammay2013_4

The night we brought Jax home (look at that tail wagging); less-than-perfect mint chocolate cupcakes I made for a barbecue; chocolate chip cookies with my buddy; and Jax always trying to sit in my lap.instajammay2013_5

Beautiful; sleeping all crunched up in the corner of her crib; making her laugh is so easy; and letting Jax cuddle in our bed when Daddy isn’t looking.instajammay2013_6

Sheep that didn’t run when we walked up to them; my first walk with a baby AND a dog; enjoying the swings; and a hot, tired puppy.

We’ve had a whole lot of fun around here recently (and to me, “fun” basically means that I ate a lot of sweets and took a million photos of my cute baby…)

We went on a date to Dairy Queen, since I had a buy-one-get-one blizzard coupon for my birthday (if you sign up for the blizzard club, you’ll get one too). No ice cream for Kaya yet, but she sure thought it was fun to look at.PhotoGrid_1361812623131

Since she can’t enjoy dessert with us, she tried to save some milk on her chin for later. Too bad I like to wipe her face clean!PhotoGrid_1361812212178

I did some Target clearance shopping on Monday, and actually came across things I’ve been casually looking for. I’m super pumped about that soap pump (hahahaha) and the stoneware platter. The photoframe actually turned out free with a coupon I had. And of course you can never go wrong with baby clothes.IMG_20130225_185438

Kaya and I went to visit Michael for lunch one day. We wanted to take a walk, but we chickened out because of the cold and just sat in the car and played with Kaya.IMG_20130227_154907

She keeps doing this weird cute thing with her lip. And she loves when you pretend to eat her hands!IMG_20130227_155921

Have I mentioned that she also loves to eat her own hands?03012013photogrid

Her smile could not possibly get any cuter._MG_2793

We even had a bath with no tears for the first time in a while.

_MG_2785This wouldn’t be a real blog post if there weren’t a few more photos of food! We tried whole wheat pizza dough this week, and it was pretty delicious._MG_2815

I also had to make a cake for my final cake decoration class of course 1. It took me forever to finish, and I know it isn’t even close to being perfect… but I am actually pretty impressed with myself. (And yeah, I’m lazy and just wrote “congrats”…)IMG_20130228_231311

By the way, it tasted even more delicious than it looked. We brought it over to Jeff and Lelia’s right after class was over, and no one could quit ooooohing, ahhhhhing, and mmmmming over it. I’m usually a chocoholic, but I chose white cake this time and I’m so glad I did._MG_2826Other noteworthy occurences with no photos:
Kaya had another play date with her little friend Mia! She was trying to hold Mia’s hand, and when they were laying down, she stroked her hair so gently. It was so cute!

I’m also super happy because our apartment complex replaced our washing machine this week! The old one was ancient and always sounded like a rocket ship about to blast into space. The floor would shake and that thing jumped around like mad. Recently, it stopped getting things clean… and that is NOT good when you have cloth diapers. Ahem. Anyway, the new machine is quiet (it’s almost relaxing to listen to it), and my diapers look brand-spankin’ new.

Happy weekend everyone!

splish splash…

… she was takin’ a bath! (and it wasn’t even Saturday night!)

_MG_6974She’s all smiles until she gets water on her face. Love that goofy tongue!

_MG_6977With all the kicking she does now, she makes some pretty big splashes! Just wait till she actually realizes what she’s doing and splashes on purpose- it’ll be even more fun (and an even bigger mess)!121712merge _MG_6985

She still tries to do her sit-ups in the tub… exercise isn’t for bathtime, silly!_MG_6988
