five on friday: yogurt, prayer face and duck hunting

ONE. Someone loves her yogurt again! She lost interest in it for a while, but now she shovels it down like it’s going out of style. I’m pretty happy, especially since she still isn’t drinking whole milk.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset TWO. For Brittany’s baby shower this week, I was in charge of the punch. I was probably a little too excited to have these rubber ducks swimming in it (but it is adorable, no?)! The original recipe called for blue berry Koolaid, so I bought the blue-colored packet. The powder color should match the package, right? Wrong. It was RED fruit punch, which would have made this scene look a little more like duck hunting than ducks peacefully swimming in the bath.Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

THREE. Every time we ask Kaya to fold her arms to pray, she makes this face. It is so hard not to burst out laughing while we’re praying!_MG_2187FOUR. All these months that I’ve wanted to organize Kaya’s closet, I thought I’d have to order some space-saver bags online. I was super excited to see them at the Dollar Tree this week! We tried one out, and it’s actually pretty decent quality. Definitely worth a dollar!IMG_20140430_100759FIVE. I would cuddle with her all day, every day, if that’s what she wanted. The baby belly is making it a little bit harder these days… but I know that it’ll be even more difficult when I have to juggle two kids. I hope Kaya never gives up snuggling with her mama.Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

Happy weekend!

baby #2 on board!

We are so happy to finally share that we will be welcoming a second sweet bundle of love into our family! Our due date is July 2, 2014, and we couldn’t be more excited!_MG_1081

And just because this picture is so us… you get the goofy version too._MG_1082I feel so blessed to be on this journey again. Get ready for a bunch of baby-related posts 🙂

five on friday: santa baby and mrs. fix-it

ONE. We’re getting ready for Santa! Some of our decorations are up, but it has been slow-going over here. Having a toddler makes it a little harder (we just really want to relax after she goes to bed)! The tree is up and only partially lit, so hopefully we will finish that this weekend. IMG_20131205_102953 TWO. I’m not even sure how this happened… but Kaya and I got to sleep in until 9 am on Wednesday! I can’t even remember the last time we did that! Somehow, Michael got up and ready for work without making much noise. Kaya’s still been tired from our Thanksgiving traveling last week, so she’s been sleeping a few extra hours. It was pretty much heavenly.
THREE. I feel like an [unsuccessful] Mrs. Fix-It this week. Our dishwasher hasn’t been getting things clean… so I unscrewed the vent to clean it out and see if anything was causing a blockage. I found some gunk, a piece of plastic, and a dime! I’m not sure how the dime got in there (I’ll just blame the people who lived here before us)! Needless to say, it’s still not getting our dishes clean so the maintenance guy should be coming to fix it for real. We also tried to watch “Elf” this week… and the DVD didn’t work. The disc has a little wear, but I wouldn’t even really call it scratched. I tried window cleaner and then furniture polish on it (two tricks people claim to work)… and nothing. Sad day.
FOUR. I bought these bibs a few weeks ago and have been loving them! I was disgusted by the pile of dirty bibs I always had waiting to go in the wash (and they never seemed to come completely clean, either), so I wanted something I could wash in the sink right away after she wears it. So much less mess!pelicanbibs FIVE. Sometimes, I still see a little baby when I look at her. I wish she could keep these cheeks forever.IMG_20131206_132942Happy weekend! Linking up with Natasha, April, Christina, and Darci today!

autumn leaves

Sometimes, you just have to interrupt nap time to let her play in her favorite pajamas in the leaves._MG_9617 Every year around this time, I start to get a little nostalgic. The fall seems to have so much meaning for me.kayaleaves20131The cool air and crunchy leaves take me back to ten falls ago. My dad, brother and I would ride our bikes in the evening, just until it got too dark. My mom would have warm cookies waiting for us when we returned home.

Seven falls ago, when I first started going to church.

kayaleaves20132

Five falls ago, when I first started dating Michael, and no amount of time we spent together was ever enough.

Two falls ago, when all our hopes revolved around adding a sweet baby to our little family.kayaleaves20133And last fall, when we were blessed with the most beautiful (and crazy!) baby girl._MG_9618

I’m so thankful for falls.

grateful

I’ve been so nostalgic these past few weeks. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t had to choke back tears a few times.

More often than not, I’ve let them run down my cheeks.

My baby is about to turn one.

Where did time go?

It’s been a year full of laughter, tears, late nights, early mornings, cuddles and kisses.

It’s been a year full of LOVE and more joy than I could have ever imagined.

I’ve been looking through all her photos to choose some for a birthday slideshow. I came across this video, taken on her very first day. (it’s obvious that I was struggling with the camera big time here…)

I watched that movie, and my heart filled up. I can almost, just almost, smell that precious new-baby smell. I can feel her tiny, warm body nestled into mine. I remember how snuggling and staring at her all day still didn’t seem to be long enough. I can feel the peace that was in that hospital room.

An angel had arrived to join our family, straight from Heaven. Innocent and pure, which is exactly what “Kaya” means.

Sometimes, I almost still can’t believe she’s real. We made that little girl. And she’s perfect.

I’m so grateful for you, Kaya Rose. Thank you for teaching me more about life and myself than I ever could have imagined. Can’t wait to celebrate your birthday together next week._MG_4863

kid tested, mom approved: the style file

I’m linking up with some awesome ladies today to talk about baby style!

For our family, it’s all about saving money while still looking cute, so I’m going to share a little of my experience on shopping without spending a fortune._MG_6839-2textCarter’s is definitely my number one favorite place to shop for Kaya. They really have a great variety of outfits, and their clothes seem to be the most true-to-size. They also last really well despite all the crawling, food spills and diaper leaks that tend to happen with a baby. The best part? Usually they have some sort of sale going on, and if you pair that with a coupon code, stuff is pretty cheap. I’ve bought brand new outfits for less than what you’d pay for them used.
IMG_20130726_132244We also love The Children’s PlaceEverything is of really good quality, and I’ve found a bunch of great things on clearance. $3 jammies, tops and dresses? You can hardly beat that! It’s good to plan in advance when you see a good sale- I have things saved away for her to wear next year!IMG_20130609_193452 _MG_5644-2

Also, don’t be afraid to buy used. There are some stores that specialize in buying and selling used kids’ clothing, so check if you have any in your area! I’ve found things that are brand-new there (like jammies and snowsuits) that cost so much less than if you bought them at the original retalier. Even clothes that were used can look new, since babies don’t wear anything for very long in the grand scheme of things. I especially like to buy Kaya’s more formal dresses there. The one she wore to Kevin’s wedding cost $6.50! (and I found the perfect pair of gold Old Navy sandals to match for 50 cents, but she hardly wore them all day, so no picture of those…)_MG_8118

“you will always be my baby” chalkboard printable

I’ve been hoping to make one of those awesome chalkboard birthday prints (like this one) for Kaya’s first birthday (which is in less than a month… AHH!), but to do that, you kind of need to know how to use photoshop. I’ve used other graphic programs before but didn’t have access to photoshop until we got our new computer, so I figured I’d play around and make something for practice.

This really didn’t take any skill, but I at least became more familiar with the a few of the one million gadgets photoshop has to offer. And I thought that maybe someone else might find it cute, so I figured I’d share it for your own personal use and enjoyment 🙂youwillalwaysbemybabychalkboardwhite And then I even got fancy and did some blue and pink ones. upcycled onesie dress

What do you do when you buy a $1 onesie that never actually fit your baby? Turn it into something cuter, of course! I cut off the snaps off the bottom, made a little skirt, gathered it, and sewed it on. I also drew and appliquéd a baby bird to the top._MG_3180_MG_3189_MG_3175_MG_3177 Not bad for a quick project!

meeting baby liam!

Our friends, Mike and Amanda, had their little baby boy last week! I’m so glad that we were able to go visit them in the hospital and meet their little prince. He was born at the same hospital as Kaya, so I was definitely excited to go back. Sadly, we didn’t see any of the nurses from our stay there, but it was still fun to visit a place that holds such a great memory for our family.

Liam is so handsome (and tiny! Was Kaya ever really this small?)

We were so excited to introduce the future husband and wife babies to each other!_MG_3097 _MG_3098

“I know him!”_MG_3099 Crazy to think that these two guys met their freshman year of college… and now they are both daddies!_MG_3101Congrats Mike and Amanda 🙂
