kaya says (volume 1)

Kaya’s a pretty shy girl when we’re in a group, so to the outside world, it probably seems like she hardly talks at all. At home, she jabbers like crazy. Her longest sentences are still only 3 words long, but some of her little words are too precious to forget, so I’m saving them here! These are the phrases and words that she likes to say most often:_MG_5745

“ahh-keams” (ice cream)- She sings this song from the Mother Goose Club that goes “What? Ice cream!” all.the.time. We hardly ever give her sweet treats, but she loves to talk about them!

“Baby Connie/Baby Yuke” (Baby Caroline/Baby Luke)- I was talking to her about all her friends’ babies’ names… and these two stuck. Any baby she sees a picture of (besides Kaelyn) is Caroline or Luke. She even tried to rename Kitty “Luke” for a day.

“connnnnie!”- Carry me!

“mmmm, a caaaake” – Any cake, cookie, muffin… it’s all cake to Kaya. She loves looking at pictures of cakes just as much as the real deal. A baker in the making!

“a meow, a fuff/ruff, a tweet, a quack, a baaa”– Up until very recently, any animal was named by the sound it makes! She still does this most of the time, but has started to say “cat” now.

“more honeys!” (more undies!)- when she first started wearing undies, she called them “honeys”, and it was the cutest thing. ever. She says it correctly now, but it breaks my heart a little.

“back seep, Baba!” (back to sleep, Baba!)- Kaya tells Kaelyn to go back to sleep any time she’s cranky… even if she didn’t just wake up. Hilarious!

“waaaait… OK!”- We tell Jax to “wait” for his food when we dish it out, so sometimes Kaya pretends to make herself wait before she can take a bite of her food.

“here ya go, Peeky”- First of all, she calls herself “Peeky” (from the nickname we gave her a long time ago: Peekabird). She says this one a lot, usually when she’s setting something up (like her stepstool), or getting something for herself._MG_5730

“a sun tickle!”- when the sun is in her eyes 🙂

“what?”- Kaya says this as LOUDLY as she can when we are saying something she doesn’t want to hear (usually it has something to do with her finishing her meal or getting ready for bed, ha)!

“sunny”- this one simple word means “sunny”, “silly” and “sorry”.

“nay-nake!” (naked!)- She’s super aware of this ever since we started potty training. At night time, if she can escape from Daddy fast enough when he’s putting her pajamas on, she’ll run around in the buff screaming “naaaaay-nake!” She also told me the ducks at the pond were nay-nake because they were taking a “bath”.

“no… a yi-yull!” (no, too little!)- Kaya loves to tell us she’s too little to do something any time she just doesn’t feel like doing it. Haha.

“Olaf… hugs”- Michael puts her Olaf blanket over his head every night before bed and says “Hi, I’m Olaf, and I like warm hugs”, so Kaya likes to say it every so often too! 🙂

“a temple”- She loves seeing pictures of the LDS temples… and any big, lit-up building is a temple to her (like the Disney castle)!

five on friday: smiles, science, and snow

Finally, it’s Friday! We made it through our sick week and are hoping for a fun (and healthy) weekend!

ONE. It’s so good to see everyone around here feeling better and smiling again! We’re slowly getting our appetites back, and I don’t know if food has ever tasted so good (apparently, Kaelyn’s caterpillar is pretty delicious, too)._MG_6673 TWO. My phone’s power button decided to just stop working yesterday… which is crazy, considering I’ve only had it a year! Luckily, we managed to pull all my photos off of it, and I can at least still text people through Google Hangouts on the tablet or computer, so I’m not living completely in the stone age. I’m hoping it’s an easy fix!

THREE. We had even more SNOW dumped on us yesterday. It was so dreary outside, so we made our own color inside with a little science experiment! All you need is vinegar, food dye, baking soda, and an eye dropper._MG_6659Kaya needed some help suctioning the liquid, but she absolutely loved making her own colorful design. She liked using the sponge to wipe up any drips just as much as the actual activity!_MG_6665 FOUR. I just finished reading The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott, and to my surprise, I love historical fiction. My dad knows pretty much everything about the Titanic, so I grew up hearing a lot of details about the ship and its sinking. This book was a fun review of all that!

FIVE. I’d like to think she’s yelling “happy weekend!” in this picture… so, have a good one!_MG_6628

Linking up with Christina and friends today!

kaelyn: 8 months

_MG_6613Height: 26.5 inches
Weight:
15 pounds 11.2 ounces
Clothing size: All 6-9 month stuff!
Eyecolor:
Deep steel blue. I think I might see some darker specks of color starting to show up… but I’m not sure. They still look light, at least.
Nursing:
Every 3 hours. We are planning to try some solids this month!
Favorite things:
Being tickled, cuddles, yelling/squealing as loud as possible, and bath time. Kaya can get her laughing more than anyone! _MG_6644Favorite toys include her Little People giraffe, anything from the play kitchen, and all stuffed animals. She also really LOVES playing in the exersaucer!_MG_6347 Dislikes: Getting buckled into the car seat, getting dressed, and Kaya being too loud. If Kaya’s been loud/in her face for most of the day, sometimes Kaelyn will just start crying when she so much as sees her sister.
Sleep:
We start our bedtime routine around 7 pm, she wakes up only once to eat now (usually around 2 or 3 am), and then sleeps until about 6:15 am. She almost always refuses a morning nap, but will go down around 1:30 pm for about 2-2.5 hours. She’s always been a back sleeper until a few nights ago, when she figured out that she can roll to her side!
Nicknames:
Baba, Monkey.
Milestones, etc.: -Her biggest accomplishment this month is sitting up on her own! She sometimes isn’t too confident (or is lazy) about doing it on her own, so I usually still put the boppy pillow around her for extra security._MG_6655-She’s started dancing to music and it’s the cutest thing! She can also tap her foot to the beat.
-She can play peekaboo all on her own and loves it!
-She’s babbling! She can only say “dadada”, but I love hearing her little voice (and I’m honestly always a little surprised when she starts “talking”… I guess I still see her as a tiny baby who can only giggle and cry, but that isn’t true anymore)!
-She’s also a major wiggle worm, but not crawling yet. I don’t think she’s even close, and that is just fine with me!
-I can still pass her around for other people to hold, but she is getting a little more sensitive about being away from her mommy. I suspect this is the start of separation anxiety!

Dear Kaelyn,

Every morning, I get so excited to see you when you wake up. I love that you are so happy to see me that you slam your legs down over and over again to show it. I love your crazy, scrunched-up grin. Your happiness is contagious!

_MG_6605 I love your squishy cheeks and joy for life. Your hair is still so fuzzy and soft. Usually, you still seem so little to me, but lately, I am seeing how grown-up and strong you’re becoming._MG_6553Kaelyn, you’re so incredibly sweet. You bring so much happiness to all of us. I love watching you become who you’re meant to be.
_MG_6547I love you so much, Monkey!

when you need a sister

We’ve had a rough couple of days this week, with all four of us battling the stomach flu. I wouldn’t usually write a whole blog post about us being sick, because I never want it to seem like I’m complaining (I know it could always be worse)!

But sometimes, you just can’t do it all alone. Yesterday, I was so blessed when my sister (in-law, technically) came over to take care of all of us. Seriously… she came into our germ-infested house to make sure we were doing okay.
_MG_4661Lelia disinfected everything, stripped all the beds down, washed and folded all my laundry, made playdough cookies with Kaya, let me nap, and just watched over us all afternoon. It was so comforting to not be alone during our bout of sickness and exhaustion, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

I also might’ve cried on her shoulder about how she’s moving away about a month from now.

Jeff is just as awesome for bringing us Gatorade and giving priesthood blessings to Michael and Kaya.

I don’t know what we would do without our family.

march 2015 goals

So… I really fell short on my goals last month. I felt like a rockstar in January, and a total slacker in February. Here’s to a better outcome for March!

1. Get Kaya potty-trained. She’s all trained except for nighttime and #2.

2. Organize/purge under the bathroom sinks.

3. Make two new bread recipes. I only did one!

4. Export and backup 2014 photos.

5. Sew something.

6. Crochet something.

7. Read one book.

8. Abs.

march2015goals1. Read one book.

2. Abs.

3. Export and back-up 2014 photos.

4. Sew a baby dress or toy.

5. I found this “40 bags in 40 days” challenge, and I’m using their list to help me declutter. I made a list of areas I need to organize, and I’m not pushing myself to do it all in 40 consecutive days, but I’d love to check 15 of those areas off my list this month.

6. Start learning crochet (for real this time)!
